Jase pinged me awhile back and asked what I was listening to (I’m 1.5 months late in responding- my iPod died, so this is a good little selection off CDs I’ve rustled up):

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.

1.  The Call, Regina Spektor:  The voice.  The voice.  The voice.  The music.  The words.  Samson, too.  Heard Fidelity done by the sweet-voiced daughter of local music man Lewis McGehee a few weeks ago- angels heard and were silent.

2. The Heart of Life, John Mayer:  Honestly, hasn’t life given each of us the kidney-punch every now and again?  This song reminds me to dry my eyes, stand back up, head back out with eyes flashing and purposeful steps.  The heart of life, my friends, is indeed good.

3.  Open Hearts and Doors, Antigone Rising: If you don’t know by now…  well, this song is the end of the journey with a person.  It’s SAD.

4.  Thunder Road, Bruce Springsteen:  (The whole Born to Run album, really… do we still say “album?”)  I was six when this erupted onto the music scene, and when I hear it, I still hear the screen door slam- “Mary’s dress waves- like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays…” this song yanks me back to being an elementary-school-girl, waking up Saturday mornings to the smell of waffles my dad was making, and this song blaring on the stereo (the ALBUM!) to get us out of bed.  My dad loved Springsteen.  Only as an adult have I come to appreciate his poetry (“you ain’t a beauty, but hey you’re all right”).  Now it can quite literally bring my heart to her knees.  Harmonica, Jase?!

5.  Elevation, U2:  Tomb Raider soundtrack.  Song for kicking ass- on the way to the gym, on the way to get a beer at the pub or hear live music, to get the angst out.  Mmm.  Good.  I lose 10 pounds just FEELING badass when I play this song!

6.  Come On Get Higher, Matt Nathanson:  Seriously.  A song that has the lyric “faith and desire and the swing of your hips” is just wonderful.  My hips sway unconsciously like a new mother when I hear it.  I melt into the love.  Gorgeous sensuality.

7.  Darlin’ Do Not Fear, Brett Dennen:  My theme song for the summer.  I’m such a chicken.  I was born a scaredy-cat:  I’m only brave because life forced my hand.  It’s forced it a bit more this summer.

8.  Sleeping to Dream, Jason Mraz:  I wanted 8 songs.  “You were everywhere, out there.”  And so it goes.
